Elgin Public Schools is its own independent district, separate from Lawton Public Schools, with newer facilities and a short commute for families. Three campuses, about 2,500 students, and the small-district feel where military families know their kids by name. If you have PCS orders, the school question nearly answers itself.
Most Elgin-area new construction sits on homesites that start around half an acre and reach a full acre. That means a bigger yard, space between neighbors, room for a shop or a garden, and a built-in buffer that most city subdivisions simply do not offer at these prices.
From most of Elgin, Fort Sill is a 15 to 20 minute drive and Lawton is about the same. The Wichita Mountains are 25 to 30 minutes north, and Oklahoma City is about an hour and 15 minutes when the weekend calls.
